| South African Cricket Tour : 6th - 28th November, 2011 | |
| Our 7th South African Tour is just around the corner and despite having played in nine test matches in South Africa some decades ago for seven defeats, one draw and a solitary victory I still love going back there. Why you ask? Because cricketers are such a sensitive bunch of sportsmen! But I do cherish every visit to Africa’s most southern nation and some of its near neighbours. Whether it is for the cricket, the varied cultures, the magnificent and rugged scenery; it always treats me to a new experience and great memories each visit. |

| This year we will be starting our tour off in the spectacular city of Cape Town where we will get to enjoy sightseeing of the Paarl Valley winegrowing region, Table Mountain and the Western Cape. But just as impressive as these locations is our wonderful accommodation, the Vineyard Hotel. I never get tired of watching a Cape Town test match; the famous Newlands Oval is without a doubt one of the most beautiful venues from where to watch this great game and usually the cricket played is exciting and entertaining. It is steeped in history and thankfully it was kind to me as I was fortunate enough to make my maiden test century there, scoring a hundred runs between lunch and tea on day two. After Cape Town we move on to Sun City where we will be staying at The Palace of the Lost City, one of the most amazing hotels in the world and also taking in a game drive at the nearby Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Or for those wishing to try something a little bit different we have an alternative option of a 5 Star journey of a lifetime on board Rovos Rail “The Most Luxurious Train in the World”. On to Johannesburg where the second test will be played and this will be the first time I have watched a test there since 1970. Playing at the “Bullring” a ground which has electrifying atmosphere and where you seem to be so close to the action was a nightmare for me, having played in three tests there for three losses. If I had played five tests there I think I would have had every number from nought to nine covered, as I never got to double figures once. In recent years The Wanderers has been a happy hunting ground for our team, winning several tests and a World Cup Final there. The Wanderers Club itself is a famous sporting club and is situated only a cover drive away from the ground and we are fortunate enough to be having our farewell dinner at this exclusive club. We look forward to you joining us on what will be yet another great South African Tour. Stacky |
