Le Tour de France : 30th June - 22nd July, 2012 |
Pyrenees : 17th - 20th July, 2012 |
| The final mountain stages of the 2012 Tour de France will take place in the Pyrenees and on this tour you will see the most important 2 mountain stages of the race and most likely the decisive stages that will sort out the final classification. These includes the massive 4 col Pyrenean stage from Pau to Bagneres de Luchon which tackles the Aubisque, Tourmalet, Aspin and Peyresourde, and the final mountain stage to the summit finish at the ski station Peyragudes that takes in the difficult Port de Bales. For those bringing bikes you will be able to ride the famous climbs the feature on the 2012 Route du Tour such as the climbs of Col d’Aubisque, Col du Tourmalet, Col d’Aspin, Col du Peyresourde, and Port de Bales. The planned itinerary for the first week of the 2012 Tour de France is below - please note, this is the intended itinerary at this stage, but things do change between now and the actual time of the Tour. |
Tour Itinerary |

| Wednesday 18th July Today is without doubt the hardest stage of the 2012 Tour de France. Starting from Pau the riders traverse the Pyrenees mountains on a 197km stage that takes in the mythical climbs of Col d’Aubisque, Col du Tourmalet, Col d’Aspin and Col du Peyresourde before a descent finish to the spa town of Bagneres de Luchon. Its an absolute classic Pyrenean mountain stage, that is not to be missed. Our location in Lourdes is ideal for accessing the stage and from the hotel you will be able to ride to any of the 4 climbs (Aubisque, Tourmalet, Aspin or Peyresourde). For those without bikes, there will be an excursion to see the stage at either of these climbs or the finish in Bagneres de Luchon. After seeing the stage we shall return to the hotel in Lourdes. |
| Thursday 19th July The final Pyrenean stage of the Tour de France finishes at the ski station of Peyragudes (above the Col du Peyresourde) and prior to that it takes in the super hard Port de Bales. After breakfast we shall travel to Bagneres de Luchon, from where we will be able to see the stage start and afterwards those with bikes will have the choice of seeing the riders on either the Port de Bales or the final climb to the ski station of Peyragudes. Those without bikes will be able to walk (4km) from Luchon onto the lower slopes of the Col du Peyresourde, which forms the final climb to Peyragudes. After seeing the stage, we shall all regroup at the bus in Foix, reload the bikes and travel to nearby Toulouse where we shall spend the night at the 3* Hotel Mercure Wilson on B&B basis. You will have the evening at leisure in Toulouse for your evening meal. |
| Friday 20th July Today’s stage starts from Blagnac, on the outskirts of Toulouse (near to Toulouse airport) and for those clients who have flights after 14.00hrs, we shall take you to see the stage start before heading to the airport for your flight.
